Julie Pallant first took up photography four years ago when she retired as a university lecturer and researcher and shifted to Ballina. She attended photography classes at the University of the Third Age in Ballina and joined the Ballina Photography Club. It was through these experiences that she developed her love of photography, in particular bird photography. For the last two years she has produced a calendar containing photos of birds of the local area to raise money for SeaBird Rescue Ballina.
In the process of editing her photos, Julie experimented with different effects that could be applied to images to convert them to unique works of art. Her aim was to find a way to digitally transform photos to bring the focus to the subject of the image by removing distracting backgrounds.
