Mookaite is from Western Australia.

Mookaite was formed from the remains of billions of microscopic organisms as well as other sea creatures.

These remains were deposited on the ocean floor as sediment in the shore area of ancient seas.  When the seas retreated these sediments were cemented into solid rock by silicates carried in ground water.

Staining from adjacent minerals gives Mookaite its amazing variety of colours.

Only found in Australia, it is believed to be 120 million years old.
