Featured artist exhibition

The exhibition showing in the Creative Artisans Gallery in the Wigmore Arcade Ballina for January/February features the work of Julie Pallant, a local Ballina Photographer. It showcases some of the different ways that photos can be digitally enhanced to make them more ‘painterly’.

The exhibition showcases four aspects of Julie’s current works:

Historic buildings

This series features some of the historic buildings in the Northern Rivers. Photos have been digitally converted to a watercolour and pen effect, totally transforming the images.

Zoo animals reimagined

The images were taken by Julie during a visit to the Melbourne Zoo with her grandson. To create a special photobook for him the backgrounds of each image was replaced with a painted backdrop which creates a ‘painterly’ effect.

Painterly birds

The same painterly effect used in the zoo photos was applied to images of an owl, Black Cockatoo, Fairy-wren, pelican, kookaburra and Black-shouldered Kite.

Bird portraits

This section features close-up shots of birds presented on rich black backgrounds, creating the impression that the birds were posed under studio lights. This emphasizes the amazing colouring and texture of their feathers.
